Father John Murphy, Co. Wexford, May 27th 1798.
This figure portrays Father John Murphy carrying his battle flag as he inspires the successful destruction of the Loyalist militia forces at Oulart Hill, on May 27th 1798. This victory marked the highpoint of the rebellion in the Wexford. Fleeing the disaster of Kilcummy Hill on June 26th he was captured by loyalist forces on July 2nd. . Father Murphy was brutally beaten for hours, stripped, denied a trial and then publicly hanged.

The mercurial Meagher, imprisoned as a young man in Ireland, transported to Van Demeans land, escapee to the US, hero to the New York Irish community is portrayed in the uniform he was wearing at a meeting he attended on the evening of the 13th, after that afternoon's heroic decimation of his brigade at the battle of Fredericksburg

Born Constance Gore -Booth, a privileged daughter of the Anglo-Irish ascendancy she died a hero of the Irish independence movement in 1927.
